Is Shane Richie on his way back to Walford?

Could Shane Richie be making a return to EastEnders?

If it's not already on the cards, then the former star of the soap has dropped his biggest hint yet that he'd like it to happen.

The 45-year-old actor, who played Alfie Moon in the soap before quitting in 2005, told Hello! magazine he would love to get involved in the 'Who killed Archie Mitchell' storyline.

Shane said: "I might just gatecrash to be part of it. I could turn up at the back and when they say, 'Who killed Archie?' someone can go, 'Alfie. Alfie did it!'

"I'm not averse to going back," he continued. "Alfie is precious and dear to me but I'd only go back if there was a good reason for Kat and Alfie to return.

'People got so caught up in their love story. Me and Jessie (Wallace) would turn up at dos and it was the closest you probably get to being Posh and Becks: security guards, being pulled in and out of cars, and having to hide.'

Shane is proud to 'be remembered for a character that millions of people loved' and says his days on the soap are some of his best.

"I love Coronation Street, it has wonderful acting and wonderful writing, but it reminds me of Cliff Richard, it's kind of safe. EastEnders is like Elvis Presley – you scream.

'We've all shared something, and what we've shared is Albert Square," he added. "No one will ever take that away.'

Would you like to see Kat and Alfie make a return to Walford
