The nominations are in for the British Comedy Awards 2009. This year sees a relatively new TV star, Michael McIntyre, take on a stalwart titan of comedy, Alan Carr. With three nominations apiece, in my opinion, there is only one way to settle this... FIGHT!Outnumbered, BBC 1's sitcom starring Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner as a couple 'outnumbered' by their three children, has nabbed five nominations across the board from Best Comedy Newcomers for all the 'Outnumbered' children and Best Sitcom and Best Comedy Actress for Claire Skinner.
Strangely, Dead Set has been nominated for Best Television Comedy Drama along with Psychoville and Pulling: Special. Not noted for being especially funny, compared to the two other nominations, or containing many 'hilarious' deaths (see 'Jason X' - female campers in sleeping bags), the only reason I can see Dead Set being nominated for this particular category is that Charlie Brooker wrote it, and he's a funny man.
Finally, we see that Sasha Baron Cohen's controversial 'Bruno' has been nominated for the Best Comedy Film, along with Armando Iannucci's satirical hit, 'In The Loop' and the daft, yet great stag party-gone wrong flick, 'The Hangover'.
Find out who'll be bagging the swag on 12 December on ITV, with the wonderful return of Jonathan Ross as host.
